信函從類別上分類包括以下幾種類型：建議信、投訴信、求職信、辭職信、感謝信、道歉信、表揚信、詢問信等。從信函對象來分的話，包括私人信函和公務(wù)信函。

一、英文書信格式

縮進(jìn)式：稱呼頂格寫，正文每段第一行向后縮進(jìn)4個字母，段與段之間不空行，落款位于中間偏右的位置。

齊頭式：稱呼、正文和落款均頂格寫。正文中，段與段之間空一行。

★ 稱呼

書信寫作的稱呼語大致分為兩種情況：

★ 正文

考研應(yīng)用文一般有三點提綱，即三個內(nèi)容要點。因此，考生應(yīng)嚴(yán)格按照大綱要求寫成三句，每句表達(dá)一個提綱要點，順序不要打亂，做到文字條理清晰，簡明準(zhǔn)確。書信作文一般7~8句，使用3~5個關(guān)聯(lián)詞，3~5個從句，首尾兩段可套用一些固定句型。

★ 落款

a) 落款包括結(jié)束語和署名兩部分。

b) 結(jié)束語是表示禮節(jié)的套語，寫在正文下面兩三行處的右側(cè)，從中間寫起，第一個詞的開頭字母要大寫，末尾用逗號。一般為“Yours sincerely/truly,”，根據(jù)考研大綱，署名一致為Li Ming，注意不能寫自己的真實姓名。另外，考研書信類不要求寫日期。
